Who said anything about hacking? Remember, at this point Erika is nearly computer illiterate (It is assumed that she knows how to work the register at MegaGamers, so she can at least use computers without breaking them). What Largo has been doing is merely looking at the various niche BBSes that are still dedicated to her, three years after the fact, and getting information that's openly available.
But what do I know? After all, Largo is a l33t h4xx0r and obviously wouldn't teach people useful things like browsing and word processing ;)
